Updates from my internship with Scott Brewer at Mission Raleigh during the summer of 2009.

All Tied Up

The kids at Raleigh North decided that it was a good idea to tie me up yesterday and put me in jail. Mistake number one: I let them.

Day One on the Field

It was a great way to kick off the summer.  Our team from South Carolina was split into two groups for the afternoon sites: one went to Bradford Crossing and the other to Raleigh North.  I accompanied the Raleigh North team, and we all had an amazing time there.  The kids were amazing; they always are.  I got tied up (I have a video to post at some point) and played frisbee and the works.  Most importantly, however, they were eager to learn.  Dan, the youth pastor for the SC crew, told them the story of Gideon and explained how God is always with us, so therefore we are to be “strong and courageous.”  That seemed to catch their attention well.

In the evening, the Mission Raleigh team was split up, with half of us going to Cedar Point.  The rest (including myself) did a block party with the SC crew at The Oaks.  Time flew by there, and the kids absolutely loved it.  We had balloon animals, face painting, a moon bounce, and basketball (of course). Parents were there as well, and we gave out gift cards and lots of food.  Scotty B. was able to share the gospel after and definitely planted some seeds there.  The kids were thrilled when they found out we were doing kids club the rest of the week, and all of the ones I talked to said thy planned to come.

After all that, I got to hang out with some of the Mission Raleigh team, and then the SC crew.  It’s a smaller team, and they are completely new to this experience, but they are certainly willing to learn more and loved meeting the kids.  Keep checking for updates, as I intend to get their side of the Mission Raleigh experience.  Until then, God bless you all!

In Christ, Colby
